Singing Instruction That Will Make You Shine in Any Vocal Audition

When you think of singers such as Whitney Houston or Natalie Cole, the word “natural” may come to mind.  After all, these musical artists appear to be incredibly gifted—and genetics would appear to play no small role in their career success.  This fact brings up two interesting questions:  1.)  If you have singing talent, do you really need singing instruction? and 2.)  If you have not been blessed with perfect pitch, are singing lessons a waste of time?

Let’s consider the initial question first.  The fact of the matter is that the most naturally gifted singer in the world could benefit from singing instruction.  This is because vocal instruction is simply a means for developing your natural gifts to their fullest potential.  If you can’t imagine playing a piano concerto without plenty of instruction in playing a baby grande, why would you consider singing in public without sufficient singing instruction?

Now, the second question.  You may not have begun preschool singing like a bird, but that doesn’t mean you can’t eventually find success as a singer as an adult.  Let’s take the case of Michael Crawford, an actor who is now primarily known as a singer.  When Crawford appeared in the movie musical, “Hello, Dolly!” his vocal performances were not necessarily impressive.  However, when he began to diligently work on improving his voice, amazing things began to happen.  As a result, he ended up wowing Broadway audiences with his vocal prowess in the smash Broadway musical, “Phantom of the Opera.”  Had he not had the singing instruction, he might never have been able to have tackled the role.

You’ll find that there are many important things you will learn as you undergo voice lessons.  For instance, you should develop newfound confidence in your ability to sing.  This confidence could help you to further develop your range and improve your overall tone.  In addition, you’ll have the opportunity to stretch as a musical artist, taking on challenges you might not attempt if you didn’t have a vocal coach cheering you on.   Your confidence should also help you to overcome the kind of debilitating stage fright that could derail your musical career.   While you may never lose the nerves entirely, you can learn to keep your natural anxiety and apprehension over a musical performance under control.

Working with a singing coach, you can also learn appropriate phrasing and how to effectively “sell” a song.  In other words, you’ll learn techniques for communicating a message not only with your voice, but also through effective body language.   By mastering these methods of expression, you could find yourself in a better position to land the singing gig you desire.

Singing lessons will help you to make the transition from being just another singer to being a true musical artist.   This will be true whether your primary work will be on a concert stage or in a music studio.   With singing instruction, you’ll learn what it really takes to sing a song in a memorable way.
